Trading hours
Gautrain publishes different hours for different services. There is no single schedule that covers the whole organisation, so the times that apply to you depend on which team you need. They are set out below. Official contact details for Gautrain.
Gautrain's official 2025 fare guide PDF states: PEAK fares apply 06h00-08h30 and 15h00-18h30 on weekdays AND all day on weekends and public holidays; OFF-PEAK applies before 06h00, 08h30-15h00 and after 18h30 on weekdays, based on time of entry. The same document refers to travel 'between opening time and 06h00' and 'between 18h30 and closing time', confirming service runs outside the peak bands, but it does not state first or last train times. Train, feeder bus and parking are separate services; per-station bus route PDFs are published.
Checked on 6 September 2026 against gautrain.co.za, gautrain.co.za, which publishes no schedule covering every branch. Hours can change at short notice, especially on public holidays. Confirm with the branch before travelling.

Weekends are peak fare, all day
The single most expensive assumption people make about the Gautrain is that weekends are cheaper. They are not. Gautrain’s official fare guide states that peak fares apply between 06h00 and 08h30 and between 15h00 and 18h30 on weekdays, and all day on weekends and public holidays.
So a Saturday trip to the airport costs the same as a Tuesday morning commute. There is no off-peak weekend.
Off-peak exists only on weekdays
Off-peak fares apply on weekdays before 06h00, between 08h30 and 15h00, and after 18h30. Those three windows are the only times the cheaper fare is available, and the fare is set by when you enter the system, not when you leave it.
Tagging in at 08h29 and tagging in at 08h31 are different prices for the same journey.
The system runs earlier and later than the peak bands suggest
Gautrain’s own fare wording refers to travel “between opening time and 06h00” and “between 18h30 and closing time”, which confirms that trains run before 06h00 and after 18h30 on weekdays. The actual first and last train times are not stated in the fare guide.
Because the times differ by station and direction, the trip planner is the only reliable source for the first and last train on your route.
Train, bus and parking are three separate services
The Gautrain system is not one timetable. Trains run between the stations, dedicated feeder buses run set routes around each station, and station parking has its own arrangements. Gautrain publishes individual route maps per station area, including Centurion and Hatfield.
A train running does not guarantee a connecting bus is running, and that gap is what strands people late in the evening.
Service disruptions change the picture entirely
Gautrain posts live service notices on its home page, and during infrastructure work it substitutes buses for trains on affected sections. When that happens, the published schedule is not what is operating.
