Online Booking Requirements (eNaTIS)
In Gauteng, all appointments for driver’s license card renewals, learner’s license tests, and driver’s license tests must be booked prior to visiting the testing station.

online.natis.gov.za). - Select Location: Choose Gauteng and select the Midrand Licensing Department.
- Choose Service & Time Slot: Select your required service along with a preferred date and time.
- Confirm Booking: Save or print your appointment confirmation notice.
Documentation Required for Visits
When attending your scheduled appointment at the Midrand Licensing Department, bring the following required documents:
- Identity Document: Original South African Smart ID Card or green barcoded ID book (along with a clear photocopy).
- Proof of Residence: A utility bill, municipal account, or bank statement reflecting your full name and residential address (not older than 3 months).
- Current Driving License: Your existing driving license card (if renewing).
- Photographs: Four (4) recent black-and-white ID-sized photographs.
- Booking Confirmation: Printed or digital proof of your online eNaTIS appointment.
- Payment: Debit card, credit card, or cash as accepted at payment counters for application and license issuance fees.
Important Guidelines for Visitors
- Eye Testing & Biometrics: Fingerprint capturing and eye testing are conducted on-site during your renewal or test booking appointment. If you wear prescription glasses or contact lenses, bring them along.
- Renewal Timelines: Apply to renew your driving license card at least 4 to 6 weeks before the expiry date printed on your card. If your card expires before the new one is issued, you will need to apply for a temporary license at an additional fee.
- Foreign License Conversions: The Midrand station does not process foreign driving license conversions. In the City of Johannesburg, foreign license conversions are processed exclusively at the Langlaagte Licensing Department.
