NSFAS runs a Virtual Contact Centre rather than public walk-in offices, and publishes contact channels instead of operating hours. Its Cape Town head office is an administrative address, not a student walk-in centre.
Checked on 6 September 2026 against nsfas.org.za, which publishes no schedule covering every branch. Hours can change at short notice, especially on public holidays. Confirm with the branch before travelling.
NSFAS does not run walk-in offices for students
NSFAS handles student enquiries through what it calls a Virtual Contact Centre rather than through public offices. There is no branch network to visit, and the head office in Cape Town is an administrative address rather than a student walk-in centre.
That is why no opening hours appear above. The question for most students is not when an office opens but which channel to use.

- myNSFAS: the online portal, for application and status checks.
The USSD line is worth knowing about if data is the constraint, since it works on any handset.
Go through your institution first
Most day-to-day NSFAS matters are handled by the financial aid office at your university or TVET college, not by NSFAS directly. Those offices keep their own hours, are on campus, and can resolve many queries faster than the national channels.
Use the NSFAS channels for matters your institution cannot settle, such as national application status or payment disputes.
Expect pressure at peak times
Demand on these channels concentrates sharply around application windows, registration periods and allowance payment dates. Response times lengthen accordingly, so raise anything time-sensitive well before a deadline rather than on the day.
