SASSA Operating Hours

Trading hours

SASSA does not publish operating hours. We checked the official source and no schedule is given there, so there is nothing to show rather than something we have not found yet. Official contact details for SASSA.

SASSA publishes a directory of local service offices by province, district and municipality, but gives no opening or closing times for them. Grant payment dates follow a separate published monthly schedule, and money stays available after the pay date.

Checked on 6 September 2026 against sassa.gov.za, which publishes no schedule covering every branch. Hours can change at short notice, especially on public holidays. Confirm with the branch before travelling.

SASSA lists its offices but not their hours

SASSA publishes a directory of its local service offices, organised by province, district and municipality. That directory tells you which office serves your area and where it sits. It does not give opening or closing times for any of them.

That is why no schedule appears above. The hours exist, but they are not published centrally, so the reliable route is the specific office rather than the national site.

Grant payment dates matter more than office hours

For most people the question behind “when is SASSA open” is really about when a grant is paid. Payment runs follow a published monthly schedule by grant type, and money remains available after the pay date rather than needing collection on the day.

You do not need to queue on the first day of a payment run. Doing so is the main reason the queues at the start of each cycle are as long as they are.

Much of it does not need an office visit

Balance checks and payment confirmations can be done through your bank, at an ATM, or at retail pay points, without visiting SASSA at all. Applications, appeals and changes to personal details are what genuinely require an office.

Before travelling, confirm your matter actually needs a visit. It is the single biggest saving of time available here.

Expect the month-start pressure

Demand concentrates sharply at the start of each month and around payment runs. Offices can stop taking new people well before closing once the day’s queue is full, which means arriving inside published hours is not a guarantee of being seen.

Mid-month, mid-week visits are materially quieter.

Finding your office

Use the official SASSA service offices directory to identify the office for your district and municipality, then contact that office or your regional SASSA office to confirm its hours before travelling.
