Randburg VTS shares the DLTC site and number.

Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 15:00

The City of Johannesburg’s Licensing Directorate publishes trading hours of 07:30 to 15:00, Monday to Friday, across its licensing centres, and states that they are closed on public holidays. The Randburg DLTC page gives the same 7.30am to 3pm window.

A 15:00 close is early, and it is the real constraint on getting anything done here.

Saturday exists at some centres, and the City will not say which

The Directorate lists Saturday hours of 08h00 to 12h00 with the qualifier “some centres”. It does not name them. The City’s own extended-hours notice announces Saturday opening at selected licensing centres and then tells residents to check its social media pages to find out which ones.

So Saturday is not shown in the table above. Randburg may or may not be one of them, and no official page states it either way. Phone before making the trip.

Renewals are not done at the DLTC

This is the mistake that costs people a morning. The Randburg DLTC on the corner of Hans Schoeman and Malibongwe Drive in Malanshof, on 011 791 3480, handles booking of learner’s and driving tests, testing for driver’s licences, roadworthy certificates and the weight bridge.

Driver’s licence renewals and learner’s licence testing are done at the Randburg Licensing Department at the Randburg Civic Centre, on 011 919 5734. Vehicle registration and licensing is a third facility, the Randburg MVRA on Braam Fischer Drive, on 011 919 5702.

Three Randburg offices, three different jobs, all keeping the same hours.

The testing station and the vehicle testing station share a site

The Randburg DLTC and the Randburg VTS are at the same address and on the same phone number. Roadworthy testing and driver testing therefore run from one site, which is convenient but also means one queue feeding two services.

Arrive well before closing

Licensing counters stop issuing queue numbers long before they close, because everyone already waiting must still be served. With a 15:00 close, arriving after lunch is optimistic. Early morning is the only reliable time.

Tests are booked, not walked into

Learner’s and driving tests run to booked slots. The hours above govern when you can make or collect a booking and when the counter is staffed, not when a test will be available.

Where to check

The City’s Licensing page carries the trading hours and site list, and its Driver and Vehicle Licences page lists each Randburg facility and what it does.
