Official store finder lists each store's trading hours individually, including public holiday hours, and they differ across the network, so no single national schedule applies. Makro states that it is closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day across the network.
Checked on 6 September 2026 against makro.co.za, which publishes no schedule covering every branch. Hours can change at short notice, especially on public holidays. Confirm with the branch before travelling.
Saturday and Sunday trading
Makro trades seven days a week at most warehouses, but the weekend schedule is shorter than the weekday one and it is not uniform across the country. Sunday in particular is set warehouse by warehouse, so it is the day most worth confirming before a long drive to a Makro.
The official store finder lists Saturday and Sunday separately for every warehouse, alongside the weekday hours, so both can be read from a single page.
Public holidays and the December period
Makro publishes public holiday hours per warehouse rather than leaving them unstated, which is unusual and useful. Those holiday hours are typically shorter than the normal day and are listed directly under each warehouse’s regular schedule.
One thing does apply across the whole network: Makro states that it is closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. For every other public holiday, check the specific warehouse, because the shortened hours differ between them.
Finding your warehouse’s exact hours
The Makro store finder is the authoritative source and it is unusually complete. Every warehouse appears on one page with its full trading hours, its public holiday hours, a physical address, a contact number and a link to its location on a map.
Two details are worth reading carefully:
- Weekday hours are not always identical across the week. The finder shows genuine differences between warehouses, including at least one that opens later on Wednesdays than it does on other weekdays.
- Makro Liquor is listed separately from the main warehouse. Liquor trading in South Africa is licensed separately, so those hours can differ from the warehouse they sit alongside. If you are going specifically for liquor, read that entry rather than the main one.
Why this page does not list one set of hours
There is no single time that is correct for every Makro. The warehouses differ by weekday, by weekend and by public holiday, and Makro publishes them individually rather than as a national schedule.
