Saturday and Sunday trading
Weekend hours at SPAR vary more than at most South African supermarket brands, because each store’s schedule is set locally rather than nationally. Two SPAR stores in the same city can close an hour or more apart on a Saturday, and Sunday trading is not a given at every store.
Treat the weekend as the case to check rather than assume, especially if you are relying on a store being open late on a Sunday.
Public holidays and special trading
Public holiday hours override the normal weekly schedule for that date, and because SPAR schedules are set locally there is no national holiday pattern to fall back on. A store that trades normal hours on one public holiday may open late or not at all on another.
Before travelling on a public holiday, confirm the specific store rather than relying on what it did last time.
