Shoprite Operating Hours
Trading hours
Shoprite does not publish one national schedule. Hours are set per branch, so a single set of times for the whole network would be wrong. Use the official locator for the exact branch you plan to visit. Shoprite branch locator.
Official store directory publishes no national schedule; trading hours are set per store.
Checked on 6 September 2026 against shoprite.co.za, which publishes no schedule covering every branch. Hours can change at short notice, especially on public holidays. Confirm with the branch before travelling.
Saturday and Sunday trading
Shoprite supermarkets generally trade seven days a week, but the closing time on Saturday and Sunday is shorter than on a weekday and is set store by store. A store inside a shopping centre also follows that centre’s weekend trading decision, which can differ from a standalone store a few kilometres away.
Weekend hours are the ones most often assumed rather than checked, and they are the ones most likely to catch you out late in the day.
Public holidays and special trading
Public holiday hours replace the normal schedule for that date. Supermarkets usually keep trading on public holidays, unlike many other retailers, but on shortened hours that vary by store and by which holiday it is. The December period and Easter weekend are the two stretches where a schedule you checked previously is least likely to still be accurate.
Finding your store’s exact hours
Shoprite’s official store directory is built for browsing products and viewing each store’s leaflet. It confirms which stores exist and where they are, but it does not publish trading hours, so it will not answer the opening-time question on its own.
For a specific store’s hours, the practical route is:
- Confirm the exact store and its address in the Shoprite store directory, so you know which branch you mean.
- Check that store’s own listing on a maps service, where South African supermarkets normally maintain current hours and holiday exceptions.
- Phone the store to confirm if the trip depends on it, particularly on a public holiday or late in the evening.
Make sure you want Shoprite and not Checkers
Shoprite and Checkers are separate brands with separate store networks, and they do not keep the same hours as each other. Both can sit in the same town, so a schedule found for one will not reliably describe the other.
If you meant Checkers, use its own page: Checkers operating hours. Confirm the brand before the branch, because getting that wrong is the most common reason people arrive at a closed door.
Why this page does not list one set of hours
Shoprite does not publish a national trading schedule, and its stores differ enough that a single set of times would be misleading. This page therefore routes you to the correct store rather than printing hours that would be wrong for most branches on most days.
